Militancy an international conspiracy: RAB chief

The Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed has said that militancy in the name of Islam is a part of an international conspiracy.

He also urged Islamic scholars to speak up against terrorism on Tuesday while speaking at the freshers' reception for the 2019-20 session at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Science University (CVASU).

The programme titled "Madok, Sontrash O Jongibad Mukto Bangladesh Houk Jubo Shomajer Ongiker," was chaired by Professor Dr Goutam Buddha Das, vice-chancellor of CVASU.

Urging for a coordinated effort to stop militancy, Benazir said, "Islam never supports terrorism as its philosophy does not go with that of militancy. Social media is one of the common places for spreading militant philosophy. We should not believe everything found on social media without verifying whether or not it is true."

Benazir Ahmed told the students that drugs are a curse for us and they will destroy the youths and the society as a whole.

"The law enforcing agencies are working to eradicate drugs. However, all of us have to come forward. If the demand for drugs does not stop, it will be tough to control them," he added.

Benazir said the youths having huge potentials will lead the world in future. He urged the new students to be "global citizens".

Among others, Khandaker Golam Faruq, deputy inspector general of police (Chattogram Range), Md Mahbubur Rahman, Chattogram Metropolitan Police commissioner, Professor M Nurul Absar Khan, dean at Faculty of Fisheries, CVASU, and Professor Abdul Ahad, dean at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, spoke at the event.

The Director of Students' Welfare Association of CVASU Professor Mohammad Mezbah Uddin delivered the welcome speech.

In the 2019-20 session, 245 students got admission in three faculties (veterinary medicine, food science and technology, and fisheries). For the first time, the students took admission through a combined admission test for seven agricultural universities.
