Mosquitoes in dirty ditch near councillor’s office!
The Dhaka North mayor said councillors have to take responsibilities for eradicating mosquitoes
As part of the ongoing integrated mosquito eradication programme of Dhaka North City Corporation, Mayor Md Atiqul Islam visited the Bhatara region (region 9) on Saturday and found various types of waste and hyacinths in a ditch beside the ward 43 councillor's office, where mosquitoes were reproducing a lot.
"I was shocked to see the ditch. Councillors have to take responsibilities for eradicating mosquitoes and monitor if the city corporation staff are working properly. They also have to demarcate their areas and make a list of ditches," said the mayor.
"Mosquito infestation has increased as there are still many challenges. Mosquito control drives should be carried out in modern and scientific methods. People have to be made aware too. Besides, we are discussing with entomologists to apply drugs in new ways," he added.
The mayor also inspected the Satarkul area (region 10).
About 1,400 mosquito exterminators are applying mosquito repellents as part of the campaign, which started on 8 March. The operation is being conducted every day from 8am to noon and from 4pm to 6pm.
