Murder accused killed in ‘gunfight’ with DB
Several cases were filed against the accused with police stations in many areas in the capital.
A murder suspect was killed in a “gunfight” with the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Badda in the capital early today.
The deceased was identified as Ramjan Ali alias Ramjan Mia, 36, one of the planners of murder of local Awami League leader Farhad Hossain last year.
Farhad was the general secretary of local Awami League unit when he was killed according to Ramjan’s plan.
Moshiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DB, said: “Local politics was the key reason behind Farhad killing.
“Ramjan has been hiding since the incident.
“On receiving a secret information, we went to Shatarpul in Badda to arrest him today morning.
“Sensing our presence Ramjan and some of his cohorts opened fire on us; we fired back in self-defence. They somehow managed to escape. Later, Ramjan’s dead body was found in Projapoti Housing area.”
Several cases were filed against Ramjan with police stations in many areas in the capital – many cases in Badda alone – in connection with extortion, drug peddling and arms.
DB sources claimed that Ramjan was the right hand of the capital’s top terror Mehedi.
