NRBs can play pivotal role in confronting misinformation against Bangladesh: Touhid
Addressing the NRBs, he said, “Your connections can open doors to collaborations, investments and global recognition for Bangladesh"
Non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) can play a credible and influential role in confronting the ongoing misinformation and disinformation campaign going on against the country, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain said today (29 December).
"Unfortunately, the interim government is faced with a misinformation and disinformation campaign by a section of the media in our region based mostly on falsehood. We have to develop a narrative based on the truth and propagate it worldwide," he said while speaking at the NRB Conclave 2024 at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
"Here, I think the most important role that you can take is [to spread] that the story of Bangladesh is one of resilience, innovation and boundless potential. Yet the global perception of our nation often falls short of this reality," said the adviser.
Stating that he advocates for Bangladesh as an investment destination and innovation hub, Touhid said Bangladesh stands at the crossroads of immense challenges and unparalleled opportunities. "NRBs involvement is not just desirable, but it is essential in this regard. That's why your experience in diverse international contexts equips you to introduce best practices and innovative solutions."
Addressing the NRBs, he said, "Your connections can open doors to collaborations, investments and global recognition for Bangladesh… As respected professionals, you have the influence to reshape perceptions and advocate for Bangladesh on a global platform… The interim government recognises your potential and is committed to providing the support and frameworks needed for you to contribute effectively."
Elaborating on the support to NRBs, the adviser said this includes establishing institutional mechanisms to facilitate structured NRB engagement creating platforms for dialogue and collaboration between NRBs and local stakeholders.
"This is an opportunity to give back while gaining recognition, influence and financial return. Together we can achieve the vision of a prosperous, inclusive and respected Bangladesh," he said.
The event, presented by Prime Bank, powered by bKash and Team Group BD, was organised by the Bangladesh Brand Forum with the theme "Transforming Bangladesh through Knowledge Remittance." It aims to establish a structured framework for engaging NRBs as catalysts for national transformation
