Ismail was arrested on Wednesday night from the intellectual graveyard area of Rayerbazar
A Dhaka court has placed a man named Ismail Hossain on remand for a day in connection with the attack on journalist Mostafizur Rahman Sumon during Dhaka city polls on February 1.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order on Thursday after Mohammadpur Police Station Sub-inspector Altaf Hossain produced Ismail before the court and requested a five-day remand.
Sub-Inspector Shaowkat Hossain, the general recording officer at Mohammadpur Police Station, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Mostafizur Rahman Sumon is a crime reporter with online news portal Agami News.
On polls day, a group of supporters of an Awami League-nominated councillor candidate reportedly attacked Sumon in Mohammadpur, leaving him seriously injured.
He was first rushed to the Sikder Medical College Hospital and later transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The victim had to get six stitches on his head and was barely able to speak, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, the officer-in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost.
Ismail was arrested on Wednesday night from the intellectual graveyard area of Rayerbazar.
