Only cattle and perishable goods-carrying vessels to operate during Eid: State minister
Bulkhead movement will be suspended for 11 days, state minister for shipping says
The government has decided to halt the transportation of all goods except sacrificial animals and perishable items on naval routes for a total of seven days during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha to ensure the convenience of passengers.
Also, bulkhead movement will be suspended on all routes for 11 days from 13 to 23 June.
"Due to Eid-ul-Azha, bulkhead movement will be closed from 13 to 23 June. Transportation of goods, except for animals and perishable items, on naval routes will be halted for seven days -- three days before and three days after Eid," State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury told reporters after chairing a meeting at his ministry today (23 May).
The meeting was convened to devise plans for the smooth operation of ferries, steamers, launches, and other vessels on naval routes during Eid-ul-Azha to ensure hassle-free travel.
The state minister also said all measures have been taken to ensure safe travel during Eid-ul-Azha, and efforts were on to ensure the safe transportation of sacrificial animals on naval routes.
He further said during Eid-ul-Azha, there will be an increase in the number of ferries operating at Kazirhat and Paturia Ghat. Also, the number of launches will be increased on multiple routes.
Meanwhile, the state minister also directed the authorities concerned to enhance detective surveillance on naval routes to strengthen security during Eid.
Furthermore, he urged everyone to follow the weather forecast properly, mentioning that the Eid trip via naval routes is somewhat risky this year because of the active monsoon conditions.
