Ordinary people don't understand complex politics, they want assurance of food: Charmonai Pir

The ordinary people of the country do not understand complex politics as they want assurance of food and security in life, said Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir.

"The public's experience in these two areas is not good. The cost of goods has long been beyond reach," he said at a public gathering organised by Islami Andolan Bangladesh at the Sonali Bank premises of the Khulna Dak Bungalow today (18 November).

Mentioning that the struggle to manage household expenses started before Hasina's ouster, he said, "After the fall of autocracy, people had hoped for a better situation. But in reality, the situation has worsened in some cases. This has disappointed people.

"Therefore, I say, control over the commodity prices must be ensured at any cost," he added. 

During his speech, the Islami Andolan chief also demanded the immediate reopening of all closed mills and factories in Khulna to guarantee employment opportunities for the workers.

Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim also said the primary responsibility of the interim government is to reform the state and to ensure that dictatorship never returns again.

"We have observed that reform commissions have already been formed, and now effective measures must be taken to make these commissions dynamic and engaged with the public," he said. 

He called upon the interim government to involve political parties in state reforms.

Criticising the appointment of Filmmaker Mostafa Sarwar Farooki in the Advisory Council of the interim government, Charmonai Pir said, "The people have not accepted the newly appointed highly controversial adviser Mostafa Sarwar Farooki.

"Therefore, the nation expects to promptly remove Mostafa Sarwar Farooki [from the Advisory Council]," he added, claiming the veteran filmmaker to be "a beneficiary of the fallen dictatorship."
