18 people who have close ties with ministers or MPs became candidates in the third phase of the upazila elections
The third phase of the upazila polls have 106 millionaire candidates, the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) said today (27 May) after analysing their affidavits.
Additionally, 18 candidates have close links to ministers or MPs despite warnings from the ruling Awami League high-ups against such candidacies, the anti-graft watchdog said at a press conference at its office. This number was 17 in the second phase and 13 in the first phase.
In the third phase, a total of 1,419 candidates are contesting in 111 upazilas slated for 29 May.
