Chant Ziaur Rahman’s name every day to attain heaven: Cumilla BNP leader
Criticising the comment heavily, several leaders present at the programme expressed their embarrassment by saying no Muslim can make such a statement
A BNP leader in Cumilla told his followers they can go to heaven if they chant the name of the party's founder Ziaur Rahman on a daily basis.
Joint Convener of BNP's Cumilla South unit and President of the party's Chauddagram upazila unit Kamrul Huda made the statement at the founding anniversary programme of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Chauddagram Central Eidgah Field yesterday (1 January). His speech soon became viral on social media.
During his speech, Kamrul said, "A certain party sells tickets to heaven to the people. Although the leaders of this party speak of heaven, they deceive people. I believe heaven will be ensured if Ziaur Rahman's name is chanted every day as he never played with the people of this country."
Criticising the comment heavily, several leaders present at the programme expressed their embarrassment by saying no Muslim can make such a statement.
Some even alleged that when it was time for Zuhr prayer, Kamrul has asked the Muazzin of a nearby mosque to make the call to prayer without using the mike.
Condemning the incident, leader of a faction of BNP's Chauddagram upazila unit GM Taher Palashi said such irresponsible statement will tarnish the party.
Asked about the matter, Convener of Cumilla South BNP and former member of parliament Amin Ur Rashid Yasin said, "I haven't heard such statement yet. I'll comment after seeing it."
Meanwhile, Kamrul Huda has acknowledged the matter, saying, "Ziaur Rahman had planted some Neem trees at Mecca for the benefit of the Hajj pilgrims. So is it wrong if I tell people that they can go to heaven if they take his name?"
