CPB demands announcement of national election date by 15 Jan
“Election should be held quickly so that non-political forces cannot prolong their power. I call for the election date to be announced by 15 January,” CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince said at a party rally today
The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has called on the government to announce the date of the next national election by 15 January after holding discussions with political parties and other stakeholders.
CPB President Md Shah Alam and General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince made the demand while addressing a party rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital today (3 January) afternoon.
"Election should be held quickly so that non-political forces cannot prolong their power. I call for the election date to be announced by 15 January," Ruhin said.
Ruhin also said his party will take specific initiatives to hold views-exchange meetings with political parties, organisations, and individuals to establish unity from 10 January.
Besides, CPB will also hold countrywide rallies under its "Ganotantra Abhijatra" programme from 20 January to 27 January.
Urging caution against dictatorial forces, Ruhin said, "India wants to dominate Bangladesh. So they want to put their people in power. Leftist parties should unite to take the country forward."
Also speaking at the event, CPB President Alam called on the government to take measures to ensure the security of the lives and assets of people and resolve ongoing crises.
"Fix a date for the Jatiya Sangsad election. Take specific measures for reforms by discussing with political parties and others, rather than just limiting it to the choice of words," he said.
Other CPB leaders at the event also called on the interim government to take measures to control the spiralling prices of daily essentials, ensure justice for the mass uprising killings, repatriate those affected during the uprising and ensure security to people's lives and properties.
