Government should create conducive election environment: Jamaat
“Once a favourable environment is established, we will willingly return to our respective positions through an acceptable election,” he said
The government should prioritise reforming the state and creating a favourable environment for elections, according to Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman.
Speaking at a gathering in Dhaka today (30 August), Shafiqur said, "The current government has been installed by the people. Their primary task is to rectify the immense damage done to the state. They should quickly reorganise the areas of the state that have been harmed and create a conducive environment for elections."
He expressed his support for giving the government a reasonable amount of time to achieve these goals.
The ameer acknowledged the formidable challenges confronting the country and the ongoing sacrifices demanded of the people.
He underscored the paramount importance of social justice and criticised the previous government for its perceived injustices towards the Jamaat and other opposition parties.
The Jamaat leader also highlighted the imperative role of a free and fair media in ensuring accountability and transparency. He urged journalists to act as vigilant watchdogs of society, fearlessly exposing wrongdoing and advocating for the rights of the people.
The gathering was chaired by Engineer Golam Mostafa, the convener of the Dhaka North City Unit of the Joint Professionals' Council.
Several other prominent figures, including leaders from the Jamaat-e-Islami, the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh, and the legal and academic fields, were also present.
Shafiqur further noted the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the state machinery, underscoring the importance of addressing the deep-rooted issues that have plagued the country.
He called upon the government to prioritise the welfare of the people and create a just and equitable society.
The Jamaat ameer expressed his unwavering belief in the potential of the people of Bangladesh to overcome adversity and build a brighter future. He urged all citizens to unite and work towards a common goal of a prosperous and democratic nation.
