Islamic Andolan condemns appointment of Farooki as interim government adviser
Was there a shortage of competent and honest people in Bangladesh that it was necessary to include a fascist, socially destructive individual as an adviser? IAB Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim questioned
Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) has strongly condemned the appointment of filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki as an adviser to the interim government.
Terming Farooki as a "socially destructive, Islamophobic, and supporter of the Hefazat-e-Islam genocide," IAB Amir Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, in a statement today (13 November) expressed surprise and anger at the interim government's decision.
"Was there a shortage of competent and honest people in Bangladesh that it was necessary to include a fascist, socially destructive individual as an adviser?" he questioned.
The appointment of a controversial figure to the interim government has cast doubt over the entire administration, the IAB Amir said.
He further alleged that Farooki has played a socially destructive role through his films and dramas, promoting foreign cultures, homosexuality, and distorted values. "Such a person, who is diametrically opposed to our religious and social values, cannot be an adviser to a post-July revolution government."
Rezaul Karim also alleged Farooki is a supporter of the genocide carried out by the fascist Awami League against innocent Hefazat-e-Islam activists at Shapla Chattar in 2013.
"He is a henchman of the fallen government. His appointment has raised doubts and suspicions among the people about an attempt to reinstate AL fascists," he added.
The Charmonai Pir also called for the immediate removal of the controversial advisers and the inclusion of competent, patriotic, and honest individuals in the advisory council.
