Reza Kibria, Nur float new party Gono Odhikar Parishad
The party announced a 21-point programme on political reformation
A new political party – Gono Odhikar Parishad – has been floated with former Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) VP Nurul Haque Nur as its member secretary and former Gonoforum general secretary Reza Kibria as convener.
They both announced the formation of the new party at a press conference at their central office at Purana Paltan on Tuesday.
The 83-member party with a slogan "People's Rights, Our Promise" will run its activities on four principles - democracy, justice, rights and public interest.
The party has announced a 21-point programme on political reformation and promised to ensure 35% reserved seats for women in parliament, assuring that the head of the government cannot be the party chief.
At the press conference, Reza Kibria said, "Our journey is based on the ideology of the Liberation War. We aim to establish democracy and ensure voting rights in the country."
"We will contest 300 seats in the next parliamentary elections only under a neutral and non-partisan caretaker government," he added.
"We do not have any opposition to forming an alliance with parties with similar ideologies like us in the fight for the right to vote," he further added.
Nur said, "We have formed the party only to establish the people's rights. Our motto is to establish democracy, suffrage and human rights, and to stand against any type of exploitation and discrimination."
