Over 5 lakh BCL leaders, activists to join 1 September rally
More than 5 lakh leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from different parts of the country will participate in the student rally at Suhrawardy Udyan scheduled for 1 September, said its president Saddam Hussein on Saturday.
Saddam Hussein announced this at a press conference arranged by the party at Modhur Canteen of Dhaka University at 11 am, saying, "It is going to be a historic student gathering where Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will join.
"Our politics is based on ideals and rules of the constitution. We do not believe in the politics of violence," he said.
"The students and the representatives of the young generation will express their disbelief against anti-liberation forces. At the same time, students will take an oath to ensure the absolute victory of Sheikh Hasina in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Saddam added.
The BCL president said Bangladesh Chhatra League believes that the 1 September student rally will be an ultimatum to BNP-Jamaat, the eternal enemy of this country and people, war criminals, militants and terrorists.
The rally was primarily scheduled for 31 August but later it was rescheduled to 1 September considering public hassles as it is the last day of the week and there is a public exam on 31 August, he added.
BCL general secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan said, "We are going through a very crucial time. This is the time to determine our future and the future of the country. At this crucial time we are going to arrange a huge student rally at historical Suhrawardy Udyan on 1 September."
Earlier on 18 August, an extended general meeting of BCL was held to prepare for the student rally.
