Some among us are trying to create divisions in our unity: Fakhrul
"What is needed now is that, despite all provocations, we remain firm in our decisions. We want to return to a democratic system, remove discrimination, and see a new Bangladesh by standing shoulder to shoulder with the youth of Bangladesh," says the BNP secretary general
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for unity in overcoming the country's political and economic challenges.
"Unfortunately, some of our own countrymen are trying to create cracks in this unity. I know that attempt will not succeed. I believe we will certainly be able to reach our goal collectively and in unity," he said.
Speaking as the chief guest at the first national council of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) at Suhrawardy Udyan today (11 January), he expressed confidence in achieving collective goals despite internal attempts to create divisions.
Reflecting on the opposition's progress, he stated, "After five months, many are asking what our achievement is. The achievement is that today we can stand here and speak freely, without fear. I think this is a big victory for us. AB Party has played a big role here."
Fakhrul acknowledged the challenges facing the nation, describing the economy as fragile and the political situation as precarious. However, he underscored the importance of perseverance and collective effort.
"We want to fight that together. If we have been able to remove that monster, that fascist, by being united, then why can't we build a state of new possibilities?"
He called for patience in pursuing long-term reforms, warning against rash decisions that could jeopardise progress.
"What is needed now is that, despite all provocations, we remain firm in our decisions. We want to return to a democratic system, remove discrimination, and see a new Bangladesh by standing shoulder to shoulder with the youth of Bangladesh," he said.
On the subject of elections and governance, Fakhrul clarified the party's stance on reforms and the urgency of elections.
"We want elections quickly because our strength will increase further once elections are held. There will be a government, there will be a parliament, and the crises that have been created will be resolved."
He reiterated BNP's vision for a united national government post-election, aiming to address the country's political challenges collaboratively.
"We have said that after the election, we want to form a united national government. We want to solve political problems together," he noted, urging other parties to consider and contribute their perspectives.
Addressing the topic of interim governance, Fakhrul stated, "We are not saying caretaker government; we are saying interim government. We have given them support. It is possible for us to find a way forward where we can all move ahead together."
The BNP secretary general concluded with optimism, urging all parties to remain united and committed to building a better Bangladesh.
