Postgrad trainee doctors reject Tk5,000 increase in allowance
They threatened more protests demanding a larger pay hike
Postgraduate trainee doctors have rejected the government's decision to increase their allowance by Tk5,000 to Tk30,000.
In a statement issued by the Doctors' Movement for Justice today (24 December), they threatened more protests demanding a larger pay hike.
The Finance Division yesterday (23 December) issued a notification increasing the gratuity allowance rate of unpaid trainees who have passed the first phase of FCPS of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS).
It said the existing monthly gratuity allowance has increased by 20% from Tk25,000 to Tk30,000, effective today.
Earlier on 22 December, the trainee doctors staged a demo in the capital's Shahbagh, demanding a hike in monthly allowance from Tk25,000 to Tk50,000.
They lifted their blockade in the Shahbag intersection after receiving assurance from the government on being granted a pay hike.
