Pregnant Shahida, killed on Dhaka-Mawa highway, was shot with stolen police firearm: Munshiganj SP

Shahida Islam Rafa, who was two and a half months pregnant, was shot and killed with a gun stolen from a police station last Saturday (30 November) by her alleged boyfriend after she pressured him to marry her, police said today (3 December).
The foreign-made pistol used in the killing was one of the weapons that were looted from Dhaka's Wari Police Station on 5 August, said Munshiganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar during a press briefing at his office this afternoon.
The accused, Touhid Sheikh Tanmoy, took Shahida to the Dhaka-Mawa highway in Munshiganj and murdered her premeditatedly, said the SP.
Touhid was arrested by police yesterday (2 December) from a passenger launch at Bhola's Ilisha terminal while attempting to flee to the district's Manpura Island, Shamsul said.
Based on Touhid's confession, police recovered the murder weapon from the water under the Battali Bailey Bridge in South Keraniganj yesterday.
Originally from Begun Bari village in Mymensingh Sadar upazila, Shahida lived with her family in Dhaka's Wari area.
Her mother Jorina Begum filed a murder case at Sreenagar Police Station on the night of 30 November, naming Touhid as the prime accused.
Shahida's body, bearing multiple gunshot wounds, was found on the Sreenagar-Dogachi service lane of the Dhaka-Mawa highway.
