Prices of lentil, milk powder and egg go up
The price hike was evident after a visit to different city markets on Friday
Prices of eggs, milk powder and locally produced lentil have gone up after the national budget was passed in parliament on June 30.
The price hike was evident after The Business Standard visited Karwan Bazar wholesale market and Hatirpool retail kitchen market in Dhaka on Friday.
People from different walks of life have expressed their dissatisfaction over the price hike of such essential commodities.

Many disgruntled consumers pointed out that milk powder and eggs provide essential nutrition to children, and the recent increase in the prices is unfair.
Wholesalers in Karwan Bazar said the price of the locally produced lentil has reached Tk100 per kg from Tk90 within the span of a few days. Lentil is being sold for Tk105 to Tk110 per kg on retail markets.
Egg price has increased by Tk10 per dozen, now being sold for Tk100 to Tk110. Prices of different brands of milk powder have also gone up by Tk20 to Tk50.
Traders from the wholesale market confirmed that a 5kg pack of Dano milk powder is being sold for Tk585, a hike from Tk865.
The price of Diploma milk powder of the same quantity is now Tk560. Besides, a Marks milk powder pack is being sold for Tk500, an increase from Tk450.
The price of soybean oil has also increased by Tk2 per litre.
