Proposed budget fails to support women entrepreneurs, says WEND
WEND has also demanded changes to the proposed budget
Women entrepreneurs have expressed discontent as the proposed budget for 2019-20 fiscal year included none of their suggestions.
Women Entrepreneurs Network for Development Association (WEND) has also demanded changes to the proposed budget, saying women own most of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The new budget has proposed a VAT waiver for SMEs with an annual turnover of up to Tk50 lakh. The move will throw many SMEs into a financial crisis, said WEND President Dr Nadia Binte Amin at a press conference on Tuesday.
SMEs whose annual turnover is up to Tk1 crore should have a VAT waiver, she said.
Nadia called the proposed budget unfavourable to the women entrepreneurs.
