A Rajshahi court today (5 October) placed Dablu Sarkar, Awami League's Rajshahi city unit general secretary, on 5-day remand in a case filed over attacking protesters during the student movement.
The Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 Judge Faisal Tareq passed the order this afternoon, Mashiur Rahman, in-charge of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Detective Branch, told The Business Standard.
"On 5 August, Abu Raihan, a student of Rajshahi College, and Sakib Anjum, a student of Varendra University, were killed in an alleged attack by Awami League activists during the student movement in Rajshahi. We are investigating these two murder cases.
"Dablu is one of the main accused in these cases. However, he has been shown arrested in several other cases, including these two," he added.
Mashiur also said, "Last night [4 October], Dablu was arrested from Dakshinpara village in Naogaon in a drive by the Rapid Action Battalion."
He also mentioned that on the same day, the court approved a three-day remand for Jewel Islam Rubel, a Jubo League leader involved in the Sakib Anjum murder case. Previously, Rubel had been placed on remand twice.
