Roads and Highways Dept recovers land worth Tk2.5 crore in Chattogram
18 shops had illegally been established on the land
The local administration on Sunday conducted an eviction drive against illegal establishments in Chattogram's Hathazari upazila and recovered 25 decimals of land- worth around TK2.5 crore.
The recovered land belongs to The Road amd Highways Department.
A team led by the upazila administration – along with the Rapid Action Battalion and Roads and Highways Department – conducted the eviction drive at Ichapur Bazar in the Upazila, near the Chittagong-Rangamati Highway, and removed 18 illegal shops from 10:30am to 12pm.
Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter to The Business Standard and said that a dishonest group had established 18 shops on government land in the last one-and-a-half years.
"Although we requested them to remove their illegal establishments from the government land on 31 December last year, they did not pay heed in this regard," he said.
In the end, all these illegal shops have been removed from the land of Roads and Highways Department, the UNO added.
