Sheikh Hasina will return to Bangladesh to be hanged on the gallows: Adviser Nahid
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently sheltering in India, will be brought back to Bangladesh to face trial and execution, Adviser Nahid Islam said yesterday.
While attending 12-year-old Arafat's janaza at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital, he said, "Sheikh Hasina will come to Bangladesh to face trial, to be hanged on the gallows."
Addressing those who have taken refuge in India, he said they should be mentally prepared to face trial.
Referring to the July-August mass killings, extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances, among other crimes committed during the Awami League's 15-year regime, the adviser said the government's highest priority is to bring those responsible to book.
He said, "The trial of mass killings is this government's 'top priority'. We made our one-point declaration with the promise to try the perpetrators of mass killings on this Bengali soil. We have not backed down even a bit from that position. We will ensure justice."
