Shibir condemns attack on Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly condemned the attack on the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
In a statement today, signed by Sadeq Abdullah, the organisation's central publicity secretary, it called on everyone to protect national interests by showing patience and restraint.
In a message, the organisation's Central President Manjurul Islam said, "Relations between neighbouring countries should be based on mutual respect and trust. A diplomatic mission is protected under international law. Such attacks not only threaten international diplomatic relations, but also have an adverse impact on the mutual relations between two neighbouring countries [Bangladesh and India].
"This incident will not only disrupt regional stability but will also encourage the spread of extremism and violence," he said.
"We call on the Indian government to quickly identify the attackers and ensure punishment and strengthen the security of the mission. It is very important to take effective steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents."
