Six GCC secretaries terminated over corruption
Three officials suspended, five served show-cause notice
Six secretaries of six wards in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) have been terminated in connection with their involvement in corruption and fund embezzlement.
On the same ground, three officials have been suspended, while five others have been served a show-cause notice.
GCC Mayor Md Jahangir Alam informed journalists about the punitive actions against the corporation’s 14 officials at a press briefing in his office on Tuesday.
The sacked secretaries are Mahbub Alam from ward 22, Jahir Alam from ward 24, Akter Hossain from ward 42, Mahbubur Rahman from ward 32, Nadim Hossain from ward 34 and Mukter Hossian from ward 49 of the city corporation.
Apart from this, Assistant Engineer Md Mojahidul Islam, Accountant Md Nazrul Islam and Licence Official Md Mastofa Kamal have been suspended.
Tax Assessing Officer Ataur Rasul Bhuiyan, tax collection associates Kalam and Kamrujjaman, Office Assistant Sohel, and land survey branch’s Saiful have been asked to show cause against the allegation of their engagement in the irregularities.
