Six jailed for selling expired, fake veterinary medicines
Six people, including the MD of Advance Animal Science Company Limited, have been sentenced to two years in jail
Six people, including the managing director of Advance Animal Science Company Limited, have been sentenced to two years in jail each over selling expired and fake veterinary vaccines and medicines.
The convicts are Managing Director MM Khan, 66, Aminul Khan, 64, Ali Ahmad Khan, 65, Fazlur Rahman, 62, Mahmud Haque Khan, 47, and Din Islam, 35.
The Department of Livestock Services, Directorate General of Drug Administration and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 jointly conducted a drive at the company in the capital’s Fakirapool area and seized expired vaccines and fake drugs of Tk10 crore on Monday.
The mobile court also sealed off the company and fined it Tk 75 lakh, said RAB Executive Magistrate Mohammad Sarwar Alam, who led the drive, at a press conference.
The court found fake medicines repacked with the stickers of renowned foreign brands, including of that Singapore.
Moreover, they were selling expired rabies vaccines.
A case was filed against two other MDs of the company, who were at large,
Advance Animal Science Company had a total of 21 branches across the country, Alam said at the conference.
