Solace helps Banani fire victims
The event was a success as after the fire broke out, the team went down to the slums and discovered that the victims were in need of foods
Solace, an organisation run by two young girls organised an event called the "Banani slum food drive" for the victims of a massive fire that broke out at Banani's Godown Slum and Bede Slum.
The organisation is run by two A level students, Reesha Ahmed and Zainab Tanzim.
The event was a success as after the fire broke out, the team went down to the slums and discovered that the victims were in need of foods.
Some 42 teenagers volunteered at the event who managed to raise Tk90,000 within five days.
Around 480 families at the slums received 5kg potatoes and 1kg lentils each.
"We have rice, we have potatoes, we have lentils! What more could one possibly need?" a resident, Zakir Hossain said.
The slum dwellers called this donation the most generous and thoughtful one they have received so far.
