Students stage demo on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar protesting classmate's death in road crash
Students of CRP Nursing College today (22 December) staged a protest on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar, demanding justice for the death of their classmate in a road crash.
The protesters blocked the highway in the Shimulatala area for one hour from 12pm to 1pm, causing severe traffic congestion on both lanes on the highway, said Savar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saugatul Alam.
Prottoy Sarkar, a first-year student of the Diploma in Nursing Department of CRP Nursing College, died yesterday after a bus hit him on a bicycle around 8am in the Pakija area of the highway.
One of the protesters, Ariful Islam, a third year student of the college, said, "We demand the driver and helper of the bus be brought to book.
"We want secure roads for everyone. If the roads were safe, we would not have lost Prottoy."
The father of the deceased filed a case over the incident yesterday, OC Alam said.
The bus that hit Prottoy has been seized, he added.
