Tarique Rahman exempted from tax evasion case
A court today (27 November) exempted BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman from a case filed by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for alleged tax evasion.
Judge Rezaul Karim of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10 passed the order today as it found the allegations brought against the BNP leader "imaginary and fabricated".
Then deputy commissioner Samia Akter of Dhaka Taxes Zone-6 filed the case on 28 July 2008, for evading taxes of Tk26.86 lakh. The complainant had alleged that Tarique from 2002 to 2006 had made an income of Tk1.07 crore from different sources but failed to pay Tk26.86 lakh in taxes against that income.
