BTRC bags ASOCIO Tech Excellence Award

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has been awarded Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) Tech Excellence Award-2022 for "One Country One Rate" – a unique internet bandwidth service across the country.

Brig Gen Md Nasim Parvez, director general (System and Services Division) of BTRC, received the award on behalf of the commission on Friday at ASOCIO Digital Summit held in Singapore.

ASOCIO is a Japan-based international organisation comprising associations of IT and service industry operators from 24 countries in the Asia-Oceania region.

"'One Country One Rate', launched in June to ensure affordable internet to all people in every corner of the country, has a tremendous socioeconomic impact on telecommunication and digital inclusion in Bangladesh as the service has been playing a major role in eliminating the digitalisation gap between the people of villages and urban areas," Nasim Parvez told The Business Standard.

Under the service, customers can avail of a 5Mbps bandwidth at Tk500 each month which was earlier above Tk600. The affordability of the Internet has increased and both rich and poor have access to the Internet, said the BTRC official.
