Three including Rohingyas killed in separate ‘gunfights’

Three people, including two Rohingyas, were killed in separate reported gunfights in Teknaf and Mymensingh early Thursday.
In Teknaf, two suspected Rohingya drug dealers were killed while two Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) men were injured in a reported gunfight with BGB at Katakhali’s Naf river point of Teknaf upazila.
The deceased are Md Saker, 22, son of late Syed Hossain, a resident of Ukhia’s Kutupalong Rohingya camp and Nurul Alam, 30, hailed from Muchni Rohingya camp in Teknaf.

On secret information that a yaba consignment were coming from Myanmar through Naf river, BGB officials conducted a drive in the area, said, Maj Shariful Islam Jomaddar, deputy commanding officer of BGB Battalion-2 in Teknaf.
Sensing BGB’s presence, the drug dealers attacked them with sharp weapon, forcing the BGB men to fire back on the drug dealers.
The two Rohingya criminals succumbed to their injuries after being taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Two BGB soldiers were also injured in the incident.
One local arm, two sharp weapons, three rounds of fresh bullets and 50,000 yaba pills were seized from the spot.
In Mymensingh, a suspected murder case accused was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the district Detective Branch of police at Chakua Daria intersection in Gafargaon upazila.
The deceased Ekhlas Uddin, 35, son of Nurul Islam of Chakua village, was wanted in a murder case for killing an auto-rickshaw driver last month.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:30am, said Shah Kamal Akond, officer- in-charge of Mymensingh DB police.
As soon as police reached the area, Ekhlas and his cohort hurled brickbats and opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, he said.
Ekhlas received a gunshot wound during the gunfight while his accomplices managed to flee the scene.
Later, he was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police seized one foreign pistol and one round bullet from the spot.
