Tigress dies after eating lizard at Bangabandhu Safari Park
A female tiger has died after eating a monitor lizard at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur.
Sarwar Hossain, a wildlife officer at the park, said: “The tigress was under medical treatment as she was feeling dizzy and was suffering from anorexia after eating the lizard.”
The carcass of the animal was found on August 12. However, the reason of her death was still unknown.
Sripur upazila Livestock Officer Ukil Uddin said, “A sample of her body was sent to a research centre of Dhaka to identify the cause of death after autopsy.”
He suspected that the tigress might have died from food poisoning.
This is the second time a tiger has died in the park, which has become a popular tourist attraction.
The park had 14 tigers. Of those, 12 are alive.
