Cyclone Hamoon: Tourists defy directive on not going to beach in Cox's Bazar
Due to the impact of Cyclone Hamoon, it has been raining in Cox's Bazar and coastal areas since Monday morning. Besides, Cox's Bazar Meteorological Office said that there will be heavy rain in the entire country including the Cox's Bazar sea coast on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Despite the district administration giving directives not to go to the beach amid a danger signal 6 in Cox's Bazar due to the cyclonic storm Hamoon approaching, many tourists are gathering at the beaches.
Belal Hossain, a district administration official assigned to the beach, "The tourists do not pay heed to any requests. Despite repeated requests, many are bathing in the sea. They are even getting enraged when we are continuously requesting them. Yet, the lifeguards are sincerely carrying out their duty."

Meanwhile, a preparatory meeting was held on behalf of the district administration regarding the overall preparation of the cyclone.
It was said in the meeting that there are 576 shelters in 9 upazilas of the district. Coastal Kutubdia, Maheshkhali, Pekua, Teknaf and St Martin's Island are asked to take shelter in low-lying areas.
It was informed in the meeting that more than 250 tourists staying in St Martin's disobeying the instructions of the administration requested to be alert.
At the same time, a decision has been taken to campaign and take special measures to prevent tourists staying in Cox's Bazar, including St Martin's, from bathing in the sea.
The officials also sought the cooperation of tourists.
On the other hand, as Tuesday is the concluding day of Durga Puja the "Pratima Bisarjan" is being held on the beach where 400,000 people will gather in the area. The Superintendent of Police of Cox's Bazar Zone said additional precautionary measures should be taken in case of submerging idols in the sea in this turbulent situation.
Cyclone Hamoon may cross the Barishal-Chattogram Coast near Bhola from Wednesday morning to noon as a cyclonic storm.
