Traffic congestion cripples Dhaka-Ctg highway
The traffic jam now covers a 26-kilometer stretch between the Gazaria and Daudkandi areas
A massive traffic jam has formed on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, stretching from Meghna Toll Plaza to Daudkandi Toll Plaza, causing severe suffering for commuters who remain stuck for hours.
The congestion reportedly began early morning (11 September) after a covered van overturned in the Gauripur area of Daudkandi in Cumilla. The gridlock soon spread to the Gazaria section of the highway.
According to the latest reports, the traffic jam now covers a 26-kilometer stretch between the Gazaria and Daudkandi areas.
Mafizul Islam, a microbus driver heading towards Cumilla said, "We encountered traffic right from the Meghna Toll Plaza. It took me one and a half hours just to reach Bhoberchar bus stand. I have no idea when I'll reach Cumilla. Initially, only the Cumilla-bound lane was jam-packed, but now both lanes are blocked. The situation isn't improving because some drivers are not following traffic rules."
Riyad Hossain, sub-inspector of Gazaria highway police outpost, explained, "The traffic jam started after a covered van overturned in the Shahidnagar area of Daudkandi early this morning, and it spread to the Gazaria section. We are working hard to clear the congestion."
