Traffic movement on Dhaka-Chattogram highway resumes partially
Buses and small vehicles are not able to yet pass through both lanes as only some heavy Dhaka-bound vehicles managed to navigate amid floodwater. Movement in the Chattogram-bound lane remained off
The traffic movement on Dhaka-Chattogram highway resumed partially this morning (25 August) after being halted for three days.
"As the floodwaters started receding last evening [24 August], a few Dhaka-bound heavy vehicles started moving forward slowly," said Khairul Alam, superintendent of Highway Police, Cumilla Region.
"The highway is still submerged in floodwater, but the heavy vehicles somehow manage to move forward on the lane. However, the buses and small vehicles can't pass through the floodwaters," he added.
"There is still knee-deep water on the Chattogram bound lane of the highway, and no vehicle can move there," Khairul said.
On Thursday night (22 August), the Feni-Cumilla stretch of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway was submerged by the floodwater, forcing traffic movement to be halted as the flood situation of the Feni and Cumilla district worsened.
