Bangabandhu's 7 March speech summarised the history of exploitation and deprivation of the Bengali nation for hundreds of years. Bangabandhu represented the entire Bengali nation in his historic speech.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed stated this while speaking as the chief guest at a celebration programme – marking Bangladesh's transition from a least developed country (LDC) to a developing country – in Dhaka on Sunday.
He said, "In exchange for millions of lives, we received a flag, an independent territory. To know more about the life of Bangabandhu, we have to conduct research. We have to celebrate 7 March for hundreds of years."

Benazir Ahmed said Bangabandhu never presented himself as a separatist leader. But when Pakistan's army attacked and killed the innocent people of Bangladesh indiscriminately, he firmly declared independence.
The IGP urged for searching for knowledge to realise the truth of politics.
"Once upon a time, poverty, disease and illiteracy were our constant companions. People used to suffer from malaria, cholera and typhoid. Poverty was a constant companion. The country is being recognised as a developing country today. How was this achieved? The journey was not easy. Under the visionary leadership of the prime minister, we achieved the recognition," he added.
The IGP called upon all to work united to take Bangladesh forward.
He said, "Bangladesh's transition to developing country is a celebration of breaking the shackles of poverty. It should be celebrated every day, not on any particular day."
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) organised the discussion at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium in Rajarbagh. DMP Acting Commissioner Monirul Islam presided over the function.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Kanak Kanti Barua, Additional Inspector General Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, Additional IG Barrister Mahbubur Rahman, General Secretary of Dhaka University Teachers Association Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, film actor Alamgir, and DMP Additional Commissioner Krishnapada Roy, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
