Mahfuj Alam, adviser to the interim government, today (10 February) called for an end to mob violence.
In a post on his verified Facebook profile, he said, "If you are in favour of the uprising, stop mob violence, and if you don't stop it, you will be treated as devils."
Mahfuj said the interim government will deal with mob violence with a strong hand from now on.
"There will be no concessions if attempts are made to prove the state ineffective and failed," he said.
He also said, "No more requests will be made after today's incident. It is not your job to take the law into your own hands."
The adviser did not specify which incident from today he was referring to in his post. However, a number of incidents of mob violence and vandalism took place in recent days.
The government launched "Operation Devil Hunt," a nationwide security operation, on 8 February following a violent attack on students and civilians in Gazipur on the night of 7 February.
"Towhidi janata! After a decade and a half, you have got the opportunity to practice religion and culture in peace. Your stupidity or fanaticism is going to be the reason for the destruction of that peace."
Mahfuj called on people to refrain from oppressing, otherwise they themselves will be oppressed.
"Do not oppress, and do not be a victim of oppression. This is the last request to you!"
