Man killed in Mohammadpur Geneva camp as fight for dominance intensifies

A man was killed in a clash between two factions in the Geneva Camp area over asserting dominance in Mohammadpur yesterday night (16 October).
The deceased has been identified as Shanewaj, 37, a resident of the Geneva Camp, said Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.
"The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy", he added.
According to Nasrin Begum, the victim's sister, Shanewaj sustained bullet injuries around 11:30pm in front of Jalal Decorator Shop on Humayun Road in the camp while he was returning from his workplace.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival, she added.
Contacted, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Moniruzzaman, a duty officer at Mohammadpur police station, said, "We received information about a clash and shooting in the Geneva Camp. A police team is on the way."
Sources revealed that incidents of violence have intensified in the Geneva Camp in recent times over drug peddling. Four groups are active in drug business right now, who are thought to be involved in the confrontation.
At least three people were killed and many others have been injured over the last six months in the Geneva camp.
