BAT donates Tk9.16cr to govt’s Labour Welfare Fund
BAT Bangladesh has so far contributed a total of Tk581,541,170 crore to the fund or 15% of the total accumulated Welfare Fund
The multinational cigarette company British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Ltd (BATB) has donated over Tk 9.16 crore to the Labour Welfare Fund under the Ministry of Labour and Employment as a part of their partnership with the Government's initiative for more than 110 years.
BAT Bangladesh has been regularly contributing to this fund since the introduction of the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation Act. In the past 10 years, BAT Bangladesh has so far contributed a total of Tk581,541,170 crore to the fund.
On behalf BAT Bangladesh, a four-member delegations team comprising - Head of Human Resources department Saad Jasim, Head of External Affairs Sheikh Shabab Ahmed, and the company's two other high officials Adrita Dutta and Akhtar Anwar Khan handed over the cheque to State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian in the conference room at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 06, 2020).
During the programme, Labor and Employment Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Director General of Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation Mollah Jalal Uddin NDC and other officials were also present amongst others.
Since the Labour Welfare Fund was formed, BATB has been donating a portion of their profit regularly to the fund as a responsible organization. BATB has solely contributed 15% of the total accumulated Welfare Fund.
The initiative taken by the government aims to ensure the safety of workers and to establish a 'Worker Welfare Fund' for cooperation. The fund promises to help the workers and their family in case of any major disaster. This is a big relief to the workers and their work life.
