BSEC works on sustainable financing
Professor Dr Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed, commissioner, Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, said that alongside sustainable financing, the commission is also working on blue bonds and Sukuk.
He said this today at the concluding session of the two-day International Virtual Conference, "International Conference on Sustainable Finance and Investment 2021," organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM), read a press release.
Dr Ahmed, who was the chief guest at the event, also emphasised digitalisation in all aspects of the capital markets.
He said that in addition to increased monitoring and supervision, there is a need to change the mindset of all stakeholders for sustainable development.
"Relevant education, research and training institutes, including BICM, can play an important role in changing the mindset of stakeholders," he added.
In the concluding session, the keynote address, "Redesigning the Financial Architecture of Bangladesh: An Action Plan," was presented by the Executive President of the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Markets, Prof Dr Mahmuda Akter, and Director (Studies) Wajid Hasan Shah.
The British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Robert Chatterton Dickson, conveyed his greetings on the occasion through a video message.
Shawn Kidney, co-founder and CEO of Climate Bonds Initiative, and Rico Zhang, senior director, Asia Pacific, International Capital Markets Association, were special guests.
Later, executive president of the Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market, Professor Mahmuda Akter, in concluding the conference, thanked everyone for organizing the conference and participating amid the pandemic.
