BTMA gets new board of directors
The new directors will elect portfolio bearers such as the president and three vice presidents in the next AGM, and the date will be announced within this week
The Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) has announced a new board for the next two-year term of 2021-2023 through an uncontested election.
Sayed Nurul Islam, CEO of Well Group Industries and one of the new directors, made the disclosure on Monday night, adding, "We will elect our portfolio bearers such as the president and three vice presidents in the next AGM and the date will be announced within this week."
The BTMA Election Board declared a total of 27 candidates as "Elected Uncontested" for the next board under the Trade Organization Rules-1994. Abul Basher heads the BTMA Election Board as chairman, while Engineer Shafiqur Rahman and Tayabul Huq are members.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Nurul Islam said, "BTMA members are contributing about 80% of Bangladesh's garment exports by producing yarn, fabrics, and dyes. We produce fabrics and supply them to garment factories."
He also expressed optimism that the BTMA and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will have the scope to work together to address the challenges of the future.
Adding that he is a member of the BGMEA, Nurul Islam said, "I have observed the challenges and opportunities of the two sectors as an insider, and I will do my best to use this vision to move the textile and garment industries forward."
