For two years in a row, BAT Bangladesh receives top employer's certification
The cigarette and tobacco maker is the only Bangladeshi company to get the recognition
The British American Tobacco Bangladesh has received the Top Employers Bangladesh and Top Employers Asia Pacific certification this year.
BAT Bangladesh is the only company in the country that made it to its top employer list in 2020, said the Top Employers Institute. The institute certifies companies based on their progress against competitor companies and their workplace environment.
BAT Bangladesh also achieved the award last year. The company is a subsidiary of the British American Tobacco (BAT) group, which is operating in 200 countries.
Since 1910, BAT Bangladesh has been operating in the country, and now around 1500 employees are directly working for BAT group here. Plus, 50,000 people are employed indirectly – for example, farmers.
While maintaining top-quality corporate governance, BAT Bangladesh is involved in many government and non-government corporate social responsibility programmes.
The company achieved the top employer's certification for its exceptional employee condition, leadership practice, nurturing and developing talent through all levels of the company, said the Top Employers Institute.
However, 16 Indian and five Pakistani companies received the certification too.
Tata Consultancy Service Limited was the only Indian-origin company to receive the prestigious certificate.
In Pakistan, another BAT group subsidiary, British American Tobacco Pakistan, was certified as a top employer.
Set-up more than 25 years ago, the Top Employers Institute certified over 1,600 organisations in 119 countries across five continents.
