Bangladesh becomes ‘14th worst’ Covid-19-hit country
The country confirmed 35 more deaths from the novel coronavirus on Wednesday

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country has reached 317,528; with 2,582 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8am, according to the Directorate General of Health Services' (DGHS) press release.
Bangladesh is now 14th on the list of worst-affected countries in terms of the number of cases. It has surpassed Saudi Arabia and is now one step behind the UK according to the USA-based reference website worldometers.info.

The USA tops the list with 6,258,028 cases, followed by: Brazil, India, Russia, Peru, South Africa, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Iran, and the UK above Bangladesh.
Bangladesh recorded its first three Covid-19 cases on March 8 and the first death from the infection on March 18. The country confirmed 35 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the 24-hour period. The death toll from the virus now stands at 4,351.
The latest day's infection rate is 16.98 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date is 20.13 percent.
Among the deceased patients, 23 were men and 12 were women. Moreover, 22 of them hailed from Dhaka, four each from Chattogram and Khulna, one each from Rajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh, two from Sylhet.
All 35 of the victims died in different hospitals across the country.
Meanwhile, 2,839 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the 24-hour period, while the total number of recoveries reached 211,016 and recovery rate stood at 66.46 percent.
Some 15,734 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 15,204 were tested in 92 labs across the country. So far 1,577,616 samples have been tested.
An analysis of the division-wise fatalities revealed: 2,105 hailed from the Dhaka division, 943 from Chattogram, 291 from Rajshahi, 363 from Khulna, 169 from Barishal, 194 from Sylhet, 194 from Rangpur, and 92 from Mymensingh division.
Another doctor dies of Covid-19
A former lecturer of the Department of Physiology in Rangpur Medical College Hospital died of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.
Dr BM Faruq breathed his last at 1:40am on Wednesday at the Bogura TMSS medical college hospital, says a Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) press release.
Dr BM Faruq was a student of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College. With this, 82 doctors have died of Covid-19 in the country.
