Bangladesh has logged 21 more deaths caused by the novel coronavirus while 1,837 people tested positive in the past 24 hours, with a sign of virus transmission increasing over the last few weeks.
The latest daily count until Sunday 8am raised the death toll to 6,194, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The total number of novel coronavirus cases in the country stood at 432,333.
The daily infection rate was 13.07% of 14,060 samples tested while the overall infection rate was 17.01%. The death rate was 1.43%.
Of the dead, 17 were men and four were women. All of them died in hospitals. 14 of them hailed from Dhaka, three from Chattogram and one each from Rajshahi, Barishal, Rangpur and Mymensingh divisions.
Also, 1,693 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the 24-hour period, raising the total number of recoveries to 349,542. The recovery rate was 80.85%.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March this year, and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
