Field hospital brings relief to Ctg Covid-19 patients
Now, it’s a 60-bed field hospital with 5 ventilators, and installation of 10 ICUs is underway
After testing coronavirus positive on May 12, Saiful Islam Sihilpi, a journalist in Chattogram, was worried about where to get treatment.
Many of the patients have expressed dissatisfaction over the services of Chattogram General Hospital, designated by the government for Covid-19 patients. There are allegations that the hospital is treating patients in a crowded environment.
"I was reluctant to go to Chattogram General Hospital as many coronavirus patients have a negative opinion of the services there. So, some of the people advised me to visit the field hospital. Later, I was admitted to the field hospital," he said.
The journalist also admired the environment of the hospital.
"The hospital maintains cleanliness and social distancing is strictly followed for the patients. It is an ideal field hospital," he added.
The field hospital was launched in a situation when the sufferings of ordinary patients increased. Even, many of the patients died as they did not get proper treatment.
After one month of the inauguration, the local people are lauding the hospital organisers highly.
Enayetur Rahman, a resident of Halishahar area of the city, said that he was suffering from sore throat and fever due to seasonal change.
"As both the symptoms are similar to coronavirus, I did not get treatment in other hospitals. Later, I went to the outdoor section of the hospital and the doctor prescribed me some medications. Now I am quite fine," he said.
The construction of the hospital began on April 1 and it was officially launched on April 21. Now, there are 60 beds and 5 ventilators available in the hospital.
Setting up a process of 10 ICU beds is also underway.
The hospital provides indoor and outdoor service round the clock, and three to four doctors are always working on a roster basis.
The hospital authorities are bearing all the treatment costs, and there is an ambulance kept ready for emergencies.
More than a hundred patients are getting treatment every day in this hospital.
Meanwhile, the health officials of Chattogram district have expressed a sense of relief for the medical support provided by this field hospital.
Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of the district said, "The field hospital has reduced the sufferings of the patients. Now, we do not have any complaint about refusal for treatment."
The field hospital organisers of this hospital have said Covid-19 is a pandemic and has claimed thousands of lives globally. People need treatment in this pandemic and filed hospital can do it smoothly.
Dr Biplab Barua, one of the organisers of the hospital, said, "Field hospitals are operated in any sort of disasters. The government establishes such hospitals in events like a cyclone and other natural disasters."
The key benefit is that field hospital never rejects any patients. So, people rely more on such hospitals, he added.
"Field hospital is a blessing for medical treatment in Chattogram," said Akhtar Kabir Chowdhury, convener of Sachetan Nagarik Committee, Chattogram chapter.
The hospital is established on the motorcycle manufacturing factory of Navana Group. The group has left the building to make the hospital after the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
