Hungry amid lockdown, Jamalpur’s poor loot goods from truck carrying relief

The starving workless and poor people looted relief goods from a truck at Jamalpur municipality's Mukundabari on Sunday.
The truck was carrying 600 bags of 10kg rice and 600 bags of 3kg potatoes to Bania Bazar area to distribute relief among the poor, the locals said.
On the way, hungry men and women seized the vehicle and looted it.
After that, the truck hurriedly left the spot.
But the looters alleged that they did not get any relief even after going to several places for food aid. They also complained of irregularities in relief distribution.
Jamal Pasha, councillor of Ward-6 of the municipality, said he was supposed to receive the relief supply to distribute it in his area.
"I was waiting for the relief in the place where it was supposed to be delivered. But it did not arrive. Around 400 bags of relief were stolen."
Jamalpur Municipality Mayor Mirza Shakhayatul Alam Moni said, "The incident is being investigated."
