Roopganj union in Narayanganj locked down to fight Covid-19

The Narayanganj district administration has locked down Roopganj Sadar union as the coronavirus cases in the union are on the rise, according to a map by the Directorate General of Health Services.
The lockdown will be in force from midnight on Thursday night, said Deputy Commissioner Md Jashimuddin.
The Upzila Health Directorate says that 75 residents of Roopganj Sadar union have been infected with the novel coronavirus, so far.
Of them, one has died of the virus and 32 are being kept in isolation. The number of infections is increasing every day in the union, which has more than 60,000 people.
Deputy COmmissioner Jashim Uddin said the union will be locked down for 14 to 21 days. People of this area will remain under observation during this timeframe, and stern action will be taken if anybody violates the restriction, he added.
The district civil surgeon said that if anybody shows symptoms of coronavirus infection during lockdown, the Upazila Health Division or District Civil Surgeon office will collect samples from them from their homes after being informed.
Superintendent of Police Zayedul Alam said police are prepared to implement the lockdown strictly. Every entrance to the union will be blocked with bamboo barricades, said the police official requesting cooperation from local public representatives.
