BSFIC confirms it will buy all sugarcane
It added that all the workers of mills where sugarcane threshing is halted for the season will be paid their full wages
A false rumour has spread through the media about the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) not buying sugarcane from all sugar mill catchment areas, so the BSFIC has called on the media not to present this false information, said a press release.
BSFIC confirmed that all the sugarcane delivered by farmers, including from the catchment area of six closed sugar mills, during the current season (2020-21) will be purchased.
The corporation has halted sugarcane threshing of six mills during the current season to modernise the sugar mills and make the government mills more beneficial.
Although the six mill threshing works will be closed, the sugarcane from these mills' catchment area will be purchased at the proper time, stated the press release.
The corporation has already taken steps to collect the sugar cane from these areas and deliver it to the nearest mill.
The government has allocated Tk100 crore to pay the farmers for the sugarcane so that no farmer is harmed by the closed mills, BSFIC said.
Therefore, the authority has invited farmers to deliver their products to their nearest sugarcane trading center and dispel the rumors.
The BSFIC also confirmed in the press release that, all the workers and officers of the mills, where sugarcane threshing is halted for the season, will be paid their full wages.
