Green Delta, Nagad team up to raise fund for affected farmers
They want to collect money from corporate, individual and non-resident Bangladeshis through an online campaign
Green Delta Insurance Company Limited and Bangladesh Post Office's mobile financing service Nagad have come together to raise fund for the farmers' hit hard by Covid-19 crisis.
Under the campaign "Amra Korbo Joy", they announced the fundraising programme at an online press conference on Thursday.
Green Delta and Nagad want to collect money from corporate, individual and non-resident Bangladeshis through this campaign during May 3-17.
Tanvir A Mishuk, managing director of Nagad, said: "Agriculture is the lifeblood of our nation which employs around 45 percent people. But Covid-19 crisis is taking a heavy toll on crop's harvesting, reaping and sale. It is ultimately hurting the livelihoods and lives of the farmers. And in this time of global crisis, our major duty is to save our farmers to save the nation."
"With almost half of the nation dependent on agriculture for their livelihood, it is the most important community that needs to be saved for the continued prosperity and food security of our nation. In this vein, we are launching this fundraising platform," said Green Delta Insurance Company Managing Director and CEO Farzanah Chowdhury.
The fundraising initiative "Amra Korbo Joy" will receive donations through "AmraKorboJoy.net" which has a proper payment integration system from multiple platforms including credit and debit cards and mobile financial services.
Farzanah Chowdhury said, "Green Delta and its subsidiaries already donated their one-day salary to this platform."
Apart from working on the fundraising website, Green Delta and Nagad are now also working on collecting a database of farmers hit hard by the outbreak.
When the fund collection ends, it will be donated to the farmers before Eid-ul-Fitr through Nagad's transaction service.
