Bangladesh’s growth highest in Asia during coronavirus pandemic: FM
Bangladesh has had the highest growth rate among all the Asian countries during the Covid-19 pandemic, says Foreign Minister, Dr AK Abdul Momen.
He made this announcement while addressing the inaugural event of a month-long painting exhibition, titled "Art Against Corona", at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.
"When the World Bank and the IMF projected that the GDP growth rate of no country would exceed 3.38% during the covid-19 pandemic, Bangladesh's GDP growth rate reached 5.2%," he said, terming it as an inconceivable success.
The Minister also mentioned that around 40% of the canceled orders in the garment sector had been restored, thanks to the government's efforts.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has spoken to the leaders of different countries so that they don't impact the supply chain (of garment products). Now the ready-made garment industry is doing better and exporting products worth $3 billion every month," he added.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister called upon all concerned to abide by the health protocols in the face of the second wave of the coronavirus.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs, KM Khalid; Secretary to the Ministry, Md Badrul Arefin, among others, were present at the event chaired by Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Liaquat Ali Lucky.
