Abul Hashem removed as BASIC Bank chairman

The government has removed Abul Hashem from the post of BASIC Bank chairman.
The Financial Institutions Division issued a notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Afsana Bilkis, in this regard today (9 October).
The notice states that Hashem, also the vice chancellor of Anwar Khan Modern University, has been removed from the post of BASIC Bank chairman as per the Bank-Company Act, 1991.
Hashem was initially appointed as BASIC Bank chairman on 14 September 2020. He was re-appointed to the post on 15 November 2023.
He has also served as the chairman of the Dhaka Stock Exchange from 2017 to February 2023. Prior to that, he served as a director of the stock exchange from 2010 to 2017.
Hashem started his career as a lecturer in the Department of Accounting of Dhaka University in March 1974. He retired as a professor on 30 June 2016.
